M4.6 Blog Assignment: Radon

My campaign in order to raise awareness about the harm of radon would consists of sending brochures and going door to door in neighborhoods to inform the public. I think that most people, including myself do not know about the harms that radon can have. Also, most people do not know how inexpensive and easy it is to test for radon. This is information that I would include in my brochures.
After informing the public about the harm of radon, I would work with the county I live in to enforce radon testing for all homes. I think that it is important for people to be pushed to test, and that consequences are necessary if testing is not done. Also, I do not think most people would have an issue testing since the cost is so low!

  1. This would be an excellent form of outreach! Before we started learning about Radon, i didn't really know what it was. I also thought it was expensive to get my home tested. Meeting and informing people at home is a great idea to start to spread the word about the harms of Radon.

  2. I was also surprised to learn about the harm associated with radon exposure, especially as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US. Imagine purchasing a new home, raising a family in it, and only learning years down the line that there were toxic fumes being emitted from its very foundation! Homeowners and renters need to be made aware of radon risks, and I would like to see some sort of regulatory efforts to mandate disclosure by property owners and sellers in the future.
